THE STORY OF ST AUGUSTINE PRIMARY SCHOOL

On our last trip to Uganda, the team discovered a small private school called St Augustine Primary School. It is quietly serving about 200 mostly poor students from the village of Lwaboba where our medical clinic is located.  This small school has been educating village children on a shoestring budget. Though the facilities were meager, the teachers and staff were enthusiastic and committed to seeing that these poor village children received a decent education.

A government mandated school closure due to COVID 19 caused the second semester of the academic year to be interrupted shortly after it started.  St Augustine appealed to the Conejo Compassion Coalition for financial assistance so they could provide workbooks to all of their students during the shutdown, and deploy teachers to work with the students individually.  Those funds were provided and students continued their studies during the pandemic.

In September of 2020 the minister of education announced a plan for phased reopening of schools that met government standards.  St Augustine needed several infrastructure upgrades to meet those standards and again the Conejo Compassion Coalition partnered with school administration and parents to provide the essential resources required to meet the new requirements.
