For thousands of rural residents in Mbale, access to basic health care is essentially non existent. The community has been devastated since their only doctor passed away two years ago. Malaria, Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS are the leading killers of children under five, and pregnant women. It's also well known that easily preventable diseases such as measles, malaria, diarrhea and asthma kill masses every year. There is clearly little hope for the poor in this community without addressing access to basic health needs.
The proposed Wilson Wamukota Memorial Medical Center will address this need for community based health care in the village of Mbale. The goal of this project is:
- To establish a one stop center that will provide a wide range of in house medical services which are currently either absent or inadequate for the rural population.
- To elevate the quality of health care for villagers.
- To provide needed services to the poor which include:
- Imaging (X-Ray)
- Laboratory
- Immunization
- Counseling for HIV /AIDS
- Dispensing free ARVs
- Malaria Control Program
- Family Planning
- One stop shop for health and spiritual guidance
