Sri Lanka Medical Van The people of Sri Lanka have been ravaged by a devastating tsunami in December of 2004 and their recovery has been impeded by an ongoing civil war. The poor of this country have many needs but chief among them is medical care.
Children of Joy (CoJ), a Santa Barbara based relief organization, has organized a network of physicians and caregivers who volunteer their services to provide critical care for the poor through CoJ Medical Clinics. At these clinics patients receive one on one complete consultation with a qualified physician for any medical condition. medical condition. However, many of the rural poor still lack access to medical care because of the difficulty in getting to the medical clinics located in urban centers. It is therefore important that medical services be made available to people residing in the less populated rural areas. The mobile medical clinic is a concept developed by children of Joy to address this problem. A limited number of mobile medical clinics have been conducted using a rented van to provide needed services to the rural poor. However the cost of van rental is eating up a large percentage of the operating budget that could otherwise be used to purchase supplies and provide other needed services. The Conejo Compassion Coalition in partnership with Children of Joy has initiated a fundraising drive to purchase a van that could be equipped as a permanent mobile medical clinic. The fundraising goal for this project is $30,000. Questions? Need More Information? Ready to Volunteer? |
